About Pam Ohrman
Most people’s first response when meeting Pam is ‘You look familiar, where do I know you?’ It’s funny how the concept of Six Degrees of Separation come into play when you meet Pam.
Being born and bred from St. Charles MO, Pam packed up and moved to Kansas City to attend the University of Missouri-Kansas City where she earned her Bachelor of Science in Dental Hygiene. The real reason she came to this area was the 4 year Volleyball Scholarship she earned. Pam was and still is, the only dental / dental hygiene student to attend UMKC on an Athletic Scholarship, all while still making the Dean’s List. Upon graduation, Pam worked in several offices in and around the Independence / Kansas City area for 27 years. After that time past, she decided to make a midlife career change.
Pam attended Wellspring School of Allied Health in Kansas City to earn her certificate in Massage Therapy. While in school, she was drawn to the studies involving neuromuscular therapy, myofascial release, medical massage and deep tissue work. Three weeks prior to the last day of class in 2010, she took the National Boards, passed with flying colors and was ready to get busy with her new Life direction. As fate would have it and prior to finishing her studies in Massage, Dr Gray asked her to join the team. Prior to that she has been a patient of Gray Chiropractic since 2008.
Sports you say? If it has a ball then she will catch it, throw it, pass it or watch it. Pam played volleyball, basketball and softball in her high school years and volleyball through college. She started playing volleyball competitively at age 12 and continued until age 39 when her shoulder said, ‘Nope, you’re done.’ She continued her love of the sport through her daughter, who also played volleyball competitively at the club level. Pam’s daughter continued her volleyball career on 4 years of Volleyball Scholarships and was a 2 time All-American. Presently, Pam and her husband enjoy cycling long distances on the wonderful trails we have here in the Midwest, along with spending time with their two grandchildren. They both hope they can teach their grandchildren to love the wonders of nature as much as they enjoy it.
Why a career change? Well the body and its movement has always fascinated Pam, whether it is from cleaning the house to those 100 mile weekend bicycle rides. The body needs to move and with a purpose. Anything that interrupts that purpose can destroy the being, physically and mentally. She knows that from personal experience. Pam is a firm believer in the combination of massage therapy and chiropractic care. The mixture of soft and hard tissue treatment can do a body good! Coming out of Massage School, Pam knew she wanted to work in a medical setting and with athletes. Pam works side by side with Dr Gray and Dr Josh, helping them fulfill their patient’s needs for optimal health. She also works alongside them in treating the Missouri Mavericks Hockey Team. Pam continues learning by attending Continuing Education courses with hands on experience, learning new techniques to help our patients achieve their health goals.
